On Monday night, I met with a room of Alpena residents to listen. Since we launched this campaign, we’ve hosted more than a dozen town halls. Like every one before it, I left with a laundry list of the things keeping Northern Michigan and Upper Peninsula families up at night.
The cost of groceries and gas is bursting families’ budgets. District 1 residents are driving further for medical care. While they hold our communities together, our farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses are hurting from tariffs and inflation. In Oscoda and Grayling, people still live with PFAS contamination after they were promised a cleanup years ago. Everywhere I go, voters tell me they are exhausted by corrupt Washington politicians who line their own pockets instead of serving us.
These are serious problems. They deserve a serious public conversation between candidates running for elected office. However, the discussion is hard to have when one candidate won’t show up: Congressman Bergman has not held a town hall in almost a decade.
So I am extending an invitation. Congressman, join me for three debates before Election Day. I have shown up in communities across the First District. The people of Upper and Northern Michigan deserve to see you explain your record.
