Concern about crash, Rogers City officials

By Sue Zielaskowski 2 min read

On April 22nd, I was involved in a fender bender in the front of my house. After I backed out my driveway, I was struck by my neighbor’s large truck backing out of his driveway. Causing over $5000 worth of damage to the side of my smaller truck.

My neighbor called the police while I contacted my insurance office. The officer arrived and took our statements. No scene photos were taken of the sustained damage to either vehicle. No tickets were issued.

I began picking up broken parts, including those to his broken tail light assembly. Then, my neighbor retrieved a broom and swept up the remaining debris and disposed of it. After which, the officer told him to drive away and informed me that I was clearly at fault. I strongly disagreed and repeated my statement of events.

On May 5th, I went before city council and voiced my concerns in regard to the officer’s potential bias because of the long-time personal friendship with my neighbor. Council assured me they would look into it. They did.

My insurance company reviewed the photos I submitted of my smaller truck to the police report findings and concluded I was 100% NOT at fault. How could I hit someone with the side of my truck standing still! Thank you!

This was my first experience dealing with officials and it has brought me to this conclusion. In Rogers City, you must be a persistent individual. I’m certain there are others in town with similar experiences who are made to feel like they should just go away. As citizens here, we have to remember our officials work for US!

Don’t just let things go if you believe you’ve been marginalized by certain officials. The VOTE is citizen power.

And that’s my opinion.
