The News’ lack of DNC coverage concerning

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern regarding The Alpena News’s lack of coverage of recent political events, specifically the glaring disparity in coverage between the Democratic National Convention and the small gatherings held by Donald Trump.

The Democratic convention on Monday night featured Hillary Clinton and our current president, Joe Biden. In The Alpena News on Tuesday, not one mention of the DNC. On Tuesday evening of the DNC, Michelle and Barack Obama both spoke, and maybe not so surprisingly, received NO coverage in your publication on Wednesday. These figures, each a prominent voice in American politics, delivered speeches that not only resonated with many but also carried significant implications for the political landscape.

In stark contrast, your front pages have been consistently dominated by coverage of Donald Trump’s smaller gatherings. In Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s Alpena News you included articles of small meetings where Donald Trump spews bitter, harsh language filled with hate and lies. While it is undoubtedly important to report on all significant political figures, the disproportionate focus on Trump’s events at the expense of a major convention undermines the diverse spectrum of political discourse.

It is crucial for media outlets to provide balanced and comprehensive coverage of all political events, ensuring that readers are informed about a wide range of perspectives and developments. The Democratic National Convention was a pivotal moment in this election cycle, and its omission from prominent coverage does a disservice to your readers, who deserve a full and nuanced view of the political arena.

I urge your publication to reassess its coverage priorities and provide equitable reporting on all major political events, reflecting the diverse voices and issues shaping our national conversation.

VICKY LINDSAY,

Alpena
