Each district needs representation on board

The article in the July 30 Alpena News about library supporters “fighting back” saddened me. I am proud of the fact that I listen and appreciate various sides of the coin. I believe in freedom of speech. However; this community is still reeling. Why can’t “fighting back” involve the disagreeing groups coming together to brainstorm, work out how to get along, and listen to your fellow citizens? Commissioners did not make the decision lightly, why not settle this situation peacefully without all the anger and finger-pointing? Will movements to remove and destroy commissioners you as a community voted for, fix this? I ask these questions because two months ago I read an article in the Alpena News where the district I live in was facing no representation on the board. I considered this district having no representation on the board as unacceptable. I waited awhile, but no one came forward. I researched current issues and completed all the necessary paperwork to be on the November ballot as a non-partisan candidate. I did not make this decision lightly, I have an extensive government background and feel that my experience would be a contribution, looking to make positive solutions/changes. This situation has been brewing for two years, citizens have attended numerous meetings, speaking out. Because this has been allowed to fester for so long I personally don’t feel we will ever be able to totally understand exactly what went wrong, it would be best to gain what is valuable from this and move forward. Protest all you want, although I believe removing your duly elected officials may divide us all further. It’s not too late.

LUCILLE BRAY,

Committee to Elect Lucille Bray Alpena County Commissioner District 3
