Nov. election will test America, her people
These are onerous times for our country and for that matter the world.
We have been a beacon of democracy for over 200 years. While we have not always been perfect, we have supported freedom and inherent goodness of mankind.
Note the use of the past tense. Lately, it seems we have lost our way and are so divided civil discourse is almost impossible to achieve.
The following are a series of quotes that give me cautionary pause:
It can’t happen here.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Well doctor (Ben Franklin), what kind of government did you give us, a monarchy or a republic? His reply: A republic, if you can keep it.
When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.
Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for the law. It invites everyone to become a law unto himself. It invites anarchy.
So long as men worship Caesars and Napoleons, Caesars and Napoleons will arise to make them miserable.
I don’t want a snake oil salesperson as president … those voter sare happy with their snake oil whether it works or not.
Have you (to Sen. Joseph McCarthy) no sense of decency?
The truth will set you free. But not until it is finished with you.
This coming election will test us. I hope we pass.
