Morrisons glad for years as your family grocer
Dear Community —
In 1954, Bill and Marge Morrison took a chance and moved their young family to Hillman to open up a grocery store. With their then three children in tow, Susan, David, and Rhonda, they started an adventure that lasted nearly 70 years. Children Doug and Beth joined the family in the following years.
Over the decades, in what started as a small market, Morrison’s IGA grew and added additional lines of business. One could say that Morrison’s became a community staple, welcoming Hillman families, summer cottage residents, hunters and more. It provided the first job for dozens of Hillman High School students.
When our parents passed, Doug became the sole owner of what had been renamed Morrison’s Market. With Doug’s retirement, it is time for the Morrison family to close this chapter of our legacy. We can proudly say that four generations of Morrison’s worked at the store — our parents, us children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad enjoyed watching each one of us serve our hometown community.
We hold so many memories of “the store” and know that many of you do, as well. We remember delivering groceries via snowmobile to shut-in elders during snow blizzards, prepping pounds of chicken for the community BBQ event, turning the parking lot into a summer band concert and dance floor, to name a few. Each of us in the family attributes our own success in the world of work to the work ethic that was taught by our parents.
There were lean years and prosperous years. But, through it all, the Hillman community stood with us.
On behalf of the entire Morrison family, we express our gratitude. We’re grateful for your patronage and friendship.
The Hillman community will forever be a part of our family.
THE MORRISON FAMILY,
Hillman
