Pop-up pantries need better organization

Hesitate on writing this as my critics criticize my drafts. They are poor communicators and thus can’t compose information effectively.

On July 14, I attended the pop-up food pantry at Wildcat Stadium. Thought I’d help my friends/handicapped neighbors who don’t have a car. The two-hour wait was overwhelming and stressful. There weren’t any dry goods, canned goods, no frozen food — just some milk, produce, and some grapes.

Arrived at 11:40 to find three lanes of cars at AHS to Bagley and no parking on the street as the police were monitoring the area. I was to wait at the credit union for my turn to get into the line — waited 25 minutes while workers were letting others sneak in ahead of us waiting. Many left and were upset about the fiasco.

The article in The News was misleading. The 15 volunteers I saw were putting items into vehicles while others were on phones counting the 200+ cars for two hours. The picture showed the van had four boxes of grapes. That’s 32 packages — too many.

I wasted gas and time and left with a headache and overheated. Didn’t mind doing my part, but this was ridiculous. A better-organized pantry with some protein/canned goods/cheese should be available. In the future, if it’s not at St. Johns, I won’t be attending. Most of these people have the bridge card and eat better than most of us who have worked and struggled for decades. I don’t need any more confusion in my busy life.
