I just pray it is not too late for our republic

Jamie Stiehm’s column in the editorial pages of the paper (The Alpena News 1-16-2023) should be a “wake up call” for those lulled into complacency by the left. Her observations of the election of the new Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy reveals her warped view of how government should run. Used to the scripted rhetoric of the Democratic Party, she is baffled by the dissension in the ranks of the Republicans. In her world of following blindly the party line, she criticizes the disagreement she sees in the Republican Party. If she was aware of the formation of our republic, she would be equally baffled by the opposition and compromises that were needed to form a “more perfect union.” Government “by and for the people” is full of opposing views and dissension, even among people of the same parties.

In contrast, parties and governments that tolerate no opposition and create a unified group-think of ideas, are the make-up of socialistic rule. Read “Barack Obama’s Rules for Radicals: The Alinskey Model,” by David Horowitz for an eye-opener to what is really happening in our country.

If you still don’t get the awful radicalization of our republic, the disdain for the rule of law, and the corruption of our Constitution, then it is too late for you and possibly for our whole country. I pray it is not too late.
