Greg Awtry’s column in your Jan. 6 Alpena News (“Is that any way to run a country?”) was a timely gem! It appears to be what a number of the holdouts in the U.S. House of Representatives were asking. When will we get more leaders and leadership with the guts to put the country ahead of personnel gain?

Years ago, I became personally involved with the Tea Party movement because of what our immediate former U.S. comptroller general and former CEO of the U.S. Accountability Office (GAO), David M. Walker had been constantly writing and warning us about: Our nation’s debt and especially our unfunded debt.

Just recently, I obtained his more recent book: “America in 2040: Still a Superpower? A Path to Success.” I wanted to know his current thoughts. David M. Walker is one of the most knowledgeable people I know of, who can explain just how serious our debt situation is and what must be done. This book is a great read!
