This letter is being written to support the actions of Tom Berriman – principal of Ella White school. I am a graduate of the Alpena School system and I believe in rules and boundaries. If a child is on the floor throwing a tantrum and disturbing others around them, then a supervising individual should have the right to contain the child and teach them the difference between right and wrong. From the stories in the news, Mr. Berriman rightfully picked the child up and took him into an isolated area where he could talk to the child and calm him down. This is what any adult and mentor should do with our children so they learn the difference between what is acceptable behavior and what is not acceptable. I commend him and do not believe there should be any question as to whether this role model should lose his position as principal of Ella White.
