Michiganders, my heart is heavy for us

I’m not a politician, an activist or a person of high profile. I’m an average guy, born and raised in Alpena, a proud AHS Wildcat and ACC alum. After living in the grandeur of the Midwest and Canadian Rockies, Michigan is where my family longed to return.

I love this place and all its people; people who believe what I believe and people who don’t. My love for you isn’t tethered to our agreement, but to the truth we’re all created in God’s image. I don’t hate or disdain those with whom I disagree. It’s not my responsibility to obtain agreement with me.

However, as a Christ follower, forgiven of my sins, based on faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, it is my responsibility before God to love people on His behalf, pointing to His truth. Therefore, when I see someone headed toward harm, I’m compelled to shout, “Warning. Turn around.”

Fellow Michiganders, my heart is heavy for us. Proposal 3 has passed. However, what’s made legal by society, doesn’t make it right with God. God’s sobering command, “Do not kill”, supersedes and remains, regardless of popular opinion. God sees.

Let’s not be deceived into thinking a majority vote has authority to overturn the laws of God any more than it would to overturn the law of gravity. A majority may claim gravity doesn’t exist but stepping off a cliff would reveal a swift awareness of its reality. As we stand accountable to the law of gravity, so too with God’s laws.

I’m not angry. I’m not demanding anything of you. I’m simply passing on a warning, urging you to turn back to a holy and just God, because I care.
