Vote yes on Prop. 3 to give women rights back

2 min read

In response to the letter to the editor from Jacqueline Fitzgerald, I would like to offer my reasons why I support Proposition 3.

Proposition 3 grants Michigan women the same rights they had under Roe v. Wade for a generation.

The scare tactics mentioned in Ms. Fitzgerald's letter -- sterilization of minors, abortions without parental consent -- did not happen under Roe and will not be permitted by law under Prop. 3.

Likewise, linking Proposal 3 which grants women the freedom to make their own personal and private medical decisions about pregnancy to human trafficking is the most egregious kind of logical fallacy. This is a hysterical attempt to scare voters and also shows great disrespect for voters' intelligence in discerning the effects of this measure.

The only State law impacted by Prop 3 is the 1931 abortion ban. This law was invalidated by Roe, and would be blocked by Prop 3 as well. No other laws governing standards of medical

care, parental consent, physician licensing, or prosecution of malpractice are changed by Prop 3. This is fear-mongering disguised as 'concern' and 'care' for others' safety.

Vote YES on Prop 3 by November 8 to give Michigan women the freedom to make their own reproductive choices about their bodies and their futures.
