Support Prop. 3 to restore rights to women
In response to the letter dated Oct 8. 2022, I would like to speak in support of Proposition 3 and dispel misconceptions about the proposal.
Proposal 3 (Reproductive Freedom for All) restores the rights that Michigan women had for almost 50 years under Roe v. Wade. A yes vote on Prop. 3 takes us back to June 23, 2022 when Roe was still federal law.
The author of the Oct. 8 letter mentions drinking and taking drugs during pregnancy. This is an unfortunate choice, but ultimately not one that can be legislated for an individual. Prop 3 does not impact these personal choices, only private, medical decisions between a patient and doctor.
Next, Proposal 3 does not impact taxpayer money or paying for medical procedures, just as Roe did not.
Proposal 3 also does not impact parental consent for medical procedures — just as parental consent was enforced under Roe, it will remain under Prop 3.
Proposal 3 gives women the freedom to make their own reproductive and reproductive healthcare choices. In 2022, all Americans should have the right to control their own bodies. I support Prop 3 to restore those rights to all Michigan women.
