Puzzled by our mail postmarking system
I recently received two bills from Alpena businesses. I myself live in Lachine. I just happened to notice both had the stamps canceled in Traverse City. I thought, ‘This is insane’, our mail needs to go to Traverse City to be postmarked? So I did a test. I mailed a blank letter to myself, and, sure enough, when I got it, it had a Traverse City postmark.
Why is this? You mean they can’t post postmark stamps at the Alpena Post Office where I mailed it from? It has to cross the state twice to be postmarked? And they want another increase.
