How did we get here?

What has happened that it’s come to this? Half of us put on our MAGA hats and attend ginned-up rallies and drink in every lie and prevarication from the mouth of President Donald Trump or his lackies and scream, “Lock her up!” at the mention of Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi or Dianne Feinstein or Elizabeth Warren.

We believe everything Trump and his lackies at Fox tell us, no matter how preposterous, but we consider The New York Times “fake news.”

We yell and scream at Trump rallies until our faces are crimson and the veins are popping on our necks, but anyone who protested the Brett Kavanaugh nomination is part of an unruly mob.

We care more about an unborn fetus than we do about the ability of a woman to determine her own future, but we refuse to allocate government money to support the child once born. (We believe a woman’s right to choose is limited to choosing the name of the child once born).

We claim to be Christian, but view everyone else, especially everyone with brown or yellow skin or a “foreign” name, as a potential terrorist.

We want our town streets dotted with churches and gun shops, but not libraries or museums.

We want to “Make America Great Again,” but shop at Walmart, where most nonperishables come from overseas.

We support Trump without reservation, but cannot point to any one thing he’s done that has positively affected our lives.

We chant “Drain the Swamp!” but blithely accept a federal government of incompetents (Trump, Perry, Carson), goniffs (Pruitt), toadies (Pence, Sessions, Mnuchin) and nepotistic rubes (Kushner).

The other half of us are Godless Socialists.

However we got here, “the center cannot hold.”
