Make county fair fireworks happen

We love a good celebration with a bang.

So we’re excited to learn that the Alpena County Fair Board wants to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the fair this year with a fireworks show at the county fairgrounds.

City officials have apparently signed off on the plan, but they want a letter of support from the county Board of Commissioners before they’ll issue a permit.

We call on the county board to write that letter.

A sesquicentennial is nothing to take lightly. Anything that can last a century and a half deserves a big, notable celebration.

Fireworks are a great way to commemorate the milestone.

Firstly, we say congratulations to everyone involved in the county fair for making it happen year after year. The fair always impresses, and that is entirely thanks to the hard work of numerous fair officials and countless volunteers, vendors, and event participants. Thank you.

Secondly, we call on the county board and city officials to make sure the fireworks happen. The fair deserves it, the community deserves it, and we think it’s a great way to celebrate a fabulous success story.
