Vote!

It’s Election Day, and it’s time for each and every one of you to put democracy in action.

To those of you who’ve already voted through absentee ballot or early in-person voting, thank you.

To those of you who haven’t yet voted, we urge you to go out and make your voice count.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Not sure where your polling place is? Visit Michigan.gov/vote for more information.

Not registered? You can still register to vote today.

There are few reasons not to cast a ballot.

Today, voters in Alpena Public Schools and voters in Hillman Community Schools will decide if those districts can levy the 18-mill property taxes on businesses and second homes they use to fund school operations, pay teachers, and more.

Across Michigan, meanwhile, voters will decide which candidate they want to carry the banner into November for the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

Voters can only vote in the Republican or Democratic primary, not both.

Don’t just assume Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican former President Donald Trump will be the nominees. If you don’t want them, you need to give your candidate of choice your support. If you want Biden or Trump, they’ll need your votes, too.

Elections have consequences. Every one of them.

And you need to make sure you get to have a say in what consequences with which you have to live.

So get out there and vote.
