Join us at our Business Expo, NIE Book Sale

It’s one of the most exciting times of the year here at The News: Time for our annual Business Expo and Newspapers in Education Book Sale.

Come join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the APlex, 701 Woodward Ave.

As it has for the past nearly quarter-century, the Business Expo will feature numerous Northeast Michigan businesses showing off their wares, with representatives of those businesses there to answer your questions on everything from banking to furnace repair to car buying to window cleaning and beyond.

As always, right there alongside those local businesses, you can peruse through thousands of used books donated by the community to help us raise funds for Newspapers in Education, which helps put newspapers in classrooms at no cost to the school. Teachers use those newspapers for lessons in everything from literacy to current events to language arts.

At the book sale, you’ll find everything from bestsellers to classics to cookbooks to children’s books and beyond, all for $1 or $2.

New this year, Harrisville dance troupe Revolution Dance will perform at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s expo is 125 years, as The News will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Aug. 1. The expo will feature a display of historical newspaper covers (including a poster of The News’s first edition on Aug. 1, 1899) and we’ll be handing out free copies of our special 100-page edition featuring newspaper covers from throughout our history.

The expo this year will offer something for everyone, so come on out and bring the whole family for a full Saturday of fun and excitement.
