Plans do not always go as planned, just ask Swami. What was supposed to be a short day of rototilling and planting of fields for the upcoming hunting season lasted into the early evening hours. Breakdowns and intermittent rain showers made a simple task twice as long.
Some area teams have experienced the same, as breakdowns and showers of mistakes have rained down on them. Swami hopes everything brightens up for this week.
CADILLAC (2-1) at ALPENA (1-2) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- Alpena was not as lucky in game three as it was in the opener. The Wildcats scored midway through the fourth on a touchdown pass from quarterback Kaleb Donajkowski to Easton Srebnik. Srebnik received a great block from John Kurowski that sprung him for the score. Sanford Meridian quarterback Jace Burns then directed the Mustangs 65 yards, then completed a two-point conversion to send the game to overtime.
The Mustangs scored on their possession and the Wildcats couldn't.
Donajkowski did an admirable job stepping in for Jake Zann, throwing for 180 yards with an 8-of-12 passing night and all three Wildcat touchdowns. Eli Chism led the ground game with 65 yards on 18 carries.
Huge plays have been the name of the game for Cadillac the last two weeks. The Vikings broke a scoreless tie midway through the third quarter on a pass from Charlie Howell to Gavin Goetz. The same combo gave Cadillac all the points it needed in the 14-7 win over Sault Ste. Marie. Two interceptions in the fourth by Shawn Paszkowski and Tristan Logan sealed the deal.
Swami is hoping the dejection of the Wildcats does carry over to tonight's Big North contest. Mistakes have played a big part in Alpena's season and Alpena needs to cut down on mistakes to give itself a chance to win.

ROGERS CITY (1-2) at ATLANTA (1-2) -- Thursday -- 7 p.m. -- Atlanta was not going to be denied against Mio. Quarterback Jade Cheedie unleashed a pair of touchdown passes to Landon Galea. Brett Culham chipped in with a pair of rushing touchdowns to seal the 48-24 win in a team seven touchdown night. It wasn't just the offense that did well as defensive standouts Blake King, Tucker Kendrick and Cheedie had valuable contributions in stopping Thunderbolt drives.
Rogers City finds itself in an unfamiliar position, getting blown away except for the opening game against Charlton Heston. Rogers City has to start a winning streak tonight to equal last year's win total, to say nothing of the playoffs. That's why Swami says anything can happen on any given night and the offense needs to get going. Swami thinks that push might just come in the form of Isaac Paull.
After the opening win, Rogers City has been stuck on 14 points in two straight losses. Will this be the week of the Hurons or did the Atlanta win set its season going forward?

POSEN (3-0) at CHARLTON HESTON (0-3) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- Charlton Heston is searching for anything positive. The Vikings are just the opposite, they cannot wait until the next game to improve upon the previous week. Their offensive point production has been top notch and the defense has been razor sharp. The Vikings have been able to get everyone in the action so far this season. Swami feels tonight should be no different.
Last week, Posen quarterback Jack Romel rushed for two touchdowns on only five carries, but did have time to throw for 134 yards. Considering the time of possession, Romel put the Vikings out front in a short period of time in the lopsided win over Hillman. John Ennest, Alex Soik and Ethan Romel complimented the rushing game with a touchdown each.
When Swami speaks of razor-sharp defense all he has to look at is the stats as Logan Timm, Ennest and Jack Romel all had big games.
The Patriots saw a lot of positives on the field, which gave them confidence that they have not had in a long time. The only problem, the All-Knowing-One sees they are playing Posen, who is running on all cylinders.

MIO (1-2) at ONAWAY (2-1) -- Saturday -- 1 p.m. -- Interim head coach Eddy Szymoniak has the Cardinals flying high.
Sophomore quarterback Brady Gapczynski has shown he is the real deal, hitting favorite Jackson Chaskey. Chaskey has made life easy for the Cardinals rushing the ball, taking the heat off Gapczynski. Justin Kramer-St. Germain has been a leader on defense, while making an impact on offense at receiver.
Work was not as easy against Engadine, but the Cardinals managed to dig down in the 22-16 win. Senior Brendon Brewbaker solidified the win with four catches of 115 yards, including a 77-yard reception for a touchdown. Swami says Onaway cannot overlook Mio and look ahead to a tough game five against Gaylord St. Mary.
Mio's only win this season came against a young Hillman team. The Thunderbolts played well at times on offense against Atlanta, the Huskies did their damage by picking apart the defense. Swami feels in order to win, the Thunderbolts need to mix in the passing game along with the run.
