Swami didn't notice until a week ago, the days were getting shorter. A month ago, the All-Knowing-One had an eternity to get all his jobs around the house done before sunset. Now he has to hustle to get a couple done, before darkness sets in.
Let's see if Swami can finish in the light and not cool down this week.
ALPENA (1-3) at PETOSKEY (2-2) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- It seems every week there is one glitch that leads to the Wildcats' downfall, and when it happens the mistakes mount. The Wildcats opened last week's game against Cadillac on a high note, when quarterback Jake Zann hit John Rensberry with a picture-perfect pass resulting in a 14 yqrd touchdown. The early lead was short lived as the Vikings came storming back with 16 points of their own and the rout was on.
The Vikings controlled the line of scrimmage limiting the rushing game of the Wildcats to 42 yards. Swami does not have an answer for the Wildcats as not being able to play a full game. There is something that derails them and they cannot get back on track.
The rivalry between Gaylord and Petoskey for the Jaycees traveling trophy continues in the hands of the Blue Devils in an extremely low scoring game 9-0. The game was built up to be the strong defense of the Blue Devils and all-purpose back C.J. Hibbler of the Northmen, who left the game early. Petoskey has other weapons, including quarterback Joe McCarthy and wideout Seth Marek.
Swami has to say being on the road has not been kind to Alpena. So with that in mind, he feels if the Wildcats do not get off to a fast start it could be another long bus ride home.
Swami Sez: Petoskey 28, Alpena 14.
GAYLORD ST. MARY (3-1) at ONAWAY (3-1) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- Onaway keeps chugging along on a magical ride. It did not take the Cardinals long to put points on the board last week in a 52-14 win over Mio, taking just three series to score 20 points. Jackson Chaskey put the Thunderbolts in a quick hole following a 71-yard run. Justin Kramer-St. Germaine kept the rushing game going with a 51 yarder, before quarterback Brady Gapczynski got in the act, hitting Brandon Brewbaker. The Thunderbolts did not have an answer the entire game to keep them in it as Onaway's defense pitched a shutout in the second half.
Gaylord St, Mary finally has a home field after 55 years, not wasting anytime in the debut in a 58-0 routing of Bellaire. Daniel Jacobson made it a special evening, passing for 141 yards to go along with three touchdowns, and later added two rushing touchdowns.
Swami Sez: Gaylord St. Mary 38, Onaway 32.
ROGERS CITY (2-2) at ST. IGNACE (4-0) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- Rogers City took a step forward after two straight losses against ranked 8-man teams. The Hurons put together an offensive and defensive game they are capable of playing. Their 34-24 win over Atlanta was the highest point production since an opening night win. The offense put together drives that resulted in points, something they had trouble with in recent weeks. The defense had their moments, but overall came up with stops when the Husky offense looked like they were going to take control.
St. Ignace comes in with an unblemished record, but was thoroughly tested in a 30-28 win over Inland Lakes. The Saints playmakers carried them to victory, but it was the defense that saved the day with a stop of a 2-point conversion attempt.
Swami says the Hurons must come to play and get more out of its defense, if they are going to make a dent in the Saints offensive line.
Swami Sez: St. Ignace 42, Rogers City 14.
CHARLETON HESTON (0-4) at ALCONA (3-1) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- It was a bounce back week following the loss to St. Ignace and Alcona did it in a big way against Hillman. The Tigers' defense kept Hillman off the field for a majority of the game. Evan Borsvold with 11 unassisted tackles and William O'Neill with 10 were the stars for Alcona. The Tigers dissected Hillman's defense for eight scores in the lopsided win. Jeremiah Bullis, Garrett Somers, Collin Walker, Evan Woods and William Liebler all had a hand in scoring.
Charleton Heston losing streak continued following a 64-6 loss to Posen. Having scored 38 points against Whittemore-Prescott, Swami can see why the Patriot offense has had very little success. The All-Knowing-One has to say the Patriots have come out with enthusiasm, but it is extinguished in short order. They still come to play, and give it their all, Swami has to give them a thumbs up.
Swami Sez: Alcona 48, Charleton Heston 6.
