Sitting in front of a darkened TV screen is not what Swami wants. Swami found himself look at just that recently after a loss of satellite signal. Now the All-Knowing-One knows there is more than one satellite in orbit that can send down one little signal to make him happy. But in this case, the cloud cover was messing things up.
Maybe it is a good thing as the All-Knowing-One can concentrate more on this week's picks. Let's see if it makes a difference.
SANFORD MERIDIAN (0-2) at ALPENA (1-1) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- New week, new game for Alpena after last week's disaster against Marquette. Turnovers reared their ugly head in the first half, which was completely different from the season opener. Swami says the defense was on the field way too much and the offense found itself in long situations and unable to connect to keep drives alive. The All-Knowing-One says the Wildcats have to get into situations of better field position, allowing them to put points on the board.
Sanford Meridian has had two blown opportunities to earn a win. Last week, it was Shepherd that won a two-touchdown lead over the Mustangs and made it stick. Their season to this point has gone in the same direction as the Wildcats.
Looking at both sides, Swami has to say the team that is most healthy and has the least turnovers is going to come out on top.
Swami Sez: Alpena 21, Sanford Meridian 14.
ST. IGNACE (2-0) at ALCONA (2-0) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- After two weeks on the road, Alcona will have its home opener against a very capable opponent in St. Ignace. The Tigers wreaked havoc on a young Atlanta team for their second win.
The opening kickoff was returned by Garrett Somers for an early 7-0 lead and it was easy going for Tigers from that point forward. Somers connected with Collin Walker, William Liebler and Jeremiah Bullis for touchdown receptions for all the points Alcona would need.
The switch from 11 to 8-player football has not hurt St. Ignace. Swam has to say, it has improved both the defense and offense, allowing a single touchdown, while averaging 47 points on offense. Ethan McLean has everything going for him at quarterback, operating the pass-run offense to perfection. The Saints have shuffled running backs in and out depending on the situation.
The All-Knowing-One has to say the defense is for real, but the point production may be a little inflated due to the competition to this point.
Swami Sez: St. Ignace 42, Alcona 30.
ROGERS CITY (1-1) at AU GRES (2-0) -- Friday -- 7 p.m. -- Rogers City is looking to get back on track, while Au Gres has been steamrolling its opposition in addition to pitching a shutout on defense.
The Hurons had a hard time keeping their defense off the field against Posen. Despite scoring two touchdowns, Rogers City did not have an answer offensively to keep them in the game. Not even the explosiveness of Isaac Paull allowed the Hurons to break the Viking defense.
The opposition of Au Gres has yet to cross the goal line. The offensive line has been the key to its success, opening holes for Cole Dewald, as well as allowing quarterback Carter Zeien to run the pass/run offense, which has split down the middle. Defensively the Wolverines have not been tested, as turnovers, interceptions and fumbles have kept the opposition from scoring.
