There's a new mural going up downtown.
Tim Nijenhuis, of Hamilton, Ontario, painted a mural behind Hopside Brewery featuring a depiction of Jesse Besser surrounded by cinder blocks, paying homage to Besser's contributions to the concrete industry.
The mural is one of this year's additions to the Alpena Downtown Development Authority's Fresh Waves Mural Project.
Another mural, by Sous La Ciel, of Ann Arbor, is going up this year on Harborside Cycle's building.
Those murals join previous year's Fresh Waves murals at the Alpena harbor, on Light of Hope Clubhouse, on Salon 125, on Thunder Bay Theatre, and more.
We're so thankful to the DDA and to all of the artists for putting those murals together.
They truly establish Alpena as Art Town and add to the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
We hope this project continues long into the future.
