Share your thoughts on Culligan Plaza

Residents have until 5 p.m. Friday to share their thoughts on the future of downtown Alpena centerpiece Culligan Plaza.

The survey is available on the city’s website, alpena.mi.us.

The brief, five-question survey asks users how they’ve used the plaza in the past, what features they think should be incorporated into the plaza in the future, and what features they think should not be incorporated into the plaza.

We urge every resident to take the survey and let city leaders know what they want out of the plaza.

The survey follows some community uproar over an artist’s rendering of proposed renovations to the plaza that many people didn’t like. The rendering showed a smaller fountain tucked into the back of the facility and a large tower in the center that lights up in different colors.

The plaza redesign is necessary because all of the features of the plaza are not accessible to those with disabilities.

So the redesign is going to happen, and the city is offering the public the chance to have a say in what it will look like.

We’re glad the city’s offering that chance, and we look forward to seeing the results of the survey.
