Slow down, drive safe

Northeast Michigan roadways have been a dangerous place of late.

On Sunday, a Detroit-area woman died in a crash on Ossineke Road in Sanborn Township.

On Monday, three cars piled up on Chisholm Street near Ninth Avenue. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Last week, two crashes happened back to back on U.S.-23, one collision happening right next to an earlier one while crews were still on the scene of the first crash.

We can do better, folks. We have to.

“People are too occupied,” Alpena Police Chief Joel Jett told reporter Steve Schulwitz for a story following the back-to-back U.S.-23 crashes. “Put the cell phone down. Don’t play with the radio. People need to slow down and don’t rush to get through a light. Yellow lights do not mean to speed up.”

We agree.

Take care out there, folks, to get yourself and everyone else on the road home safely.
