Truly awesome haircuts

Help can come from anywhere, and anyone can perform a good deed.

That’s the overriding message we took from News page designer Alyssa Ochss’s recent story on local barbers and salons helping their clients give back when they lop off their locks.

Ochss spoke to a number of haircutters who talked about the many ways their clients can help others, such as Wigs for Kids, which donates hair to make wigs for kids who lose theirs.

The salons give big. Salon 125 in Alpena, for example, donates between 100 to 150 ponytails twice a year.

It doesn’t seem like much, just a boxful of discarded hair that would end up in the trash, otherwise.

But, to a kid who needs that wig to feel they’re not wearing their disease on their head, it means the world.

And that’s what this world needs. Good people doing small things to help others, to make the world go ’round.

Thank you, stylists and barbers, for doing your part.
