US should provide military assistance everywhere in battle against Islamic terrorists

Islamic terrorism is not confined to the Middle East. It is a threat far to the west in Nigeria, too.

When President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari met at the White House, they discussed a variety of topics. Among them were economic issues and security.

Buhari may well have asked for more U.S. help in battling the Boko Haram terrorist organization, which stages frequent, bloody attacks in Nigeria. Boko Haram murderers often plan their massacres for the most horrifying effect possible. For example, Islamic clergy who do not agree with the terrorists may find themselves locked up in their houses of worship with their followers –and burned to death.

American taxpayers provide a substantial amount of foreign aid, about $1 billion a year, to Nigeria. Much of that is dispatched for humanitarian purposes.

More military assistance should not be viewed as “foreign aid,” however. Every dollar spent battling Islamic terrorists abroad — anywhere — is a dollar spent well to defend Americans and yes, civilization.
