ALPENA – The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library announced on Wednesday that the library is facilitating a logo contest, on the behalf of the Sestercentennial Celebration Commission, for the creation of a graphic to commemorate two milestones: the nation’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 50th anniversary of the Alpena Bi-Path.

The purpose of the Alpena Sestercentennial Celebration Commission is to help bring the community together by encouraging, coordinating, and sharing information about events and activities related to the aforementioned milestones, according to the release. By supporting celebrations planned by local organizations and individuals, the commission seeks to honor shared national and local history, celebrate public spaces, and foster civic connections across generations.

“Through collaboration, storytelling, and community engagement, these celebrations reflect Alpena’s enduring spirit of stewardship and pride while creating shared experiences and

lasting value for the future,” the release stated.

Residents from Alpena County are eligible to participate in the logo contest for the celebrations.

The winning logo will be used for all correspondence, programming, and marketing materials about the sestercentennial celebration by participating organizations and businesses, according to the release.

The commission is looking for original artwork incorporating shared national and local history, reflecting Alpena’s spirit of stewardship and pride. The competition closes at 7 pm on Feb. 20.
