What is a bible?
II Timothy 3: 16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
It is somewhat disturbing to hear Christians quote scripture that is not in the Bible. Cleanliness is not next to Godliness and money is not the root of all evil. The “love of money” is as stated in 1Timothy 6: 10.
“God won’t give you more than you can bear” is an example. 1 Corinthians 10: 13a “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.” Temptation beyond resistance, not suffering, is the condition God will not place on us.
“The seasons shall be as one” is another. Genesis 8: 22 is possibly the one confused, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Actually, the verse says the opposite of the “The seasons shall be as one.”
For those claiming the Bible is just a book, the levels of ignorance run just as deep. Those that study God’s Holy Word know the depth is so great no human can ever gain the complexity of it.
The Bible is proven to have been written between 1900 and 3500 years ago. The finding of the Dead Sea scrolls and the subsequent carbon dating proves beyond a shadow of a doubt when the Bible was written.
The Bible was written by forty different men over a period of 1600 years. They did not know each other; they did not even live in the same time. Their professions were different, their cultures were different, and their experiences were different.
The Bible was written on three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. It was written in three languages: Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic (the language of Jesus).
The first five books of the Bible, called the Pentateuch, were written by Moses, most likely in the Sinia during the forty years in the wilderness. Paul’s epistles, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon, were written from Rome when Paul was in prison.
Other books written by the Apostle Paul were likely written from other cities in Europe or Asia. The many variations in the penning of the sixty-six books in the Holy Bible, yet its consistency in message, concept and philosophy offer undeniable proof of its God inspired authenticity.
So, what does all this say about the Bible being a spiritual, supernatural, God-inspired text? Could it be considered a very cleverly written, coincidental conglomeration by various writers accidentally hitting on consistency?
There comes a point at which we must admit accidental or coincidental is no longer reasonable. How much evidence does it take to regard it to be proof? The fulfilled prophesy in the Bible is so extensive the non-believer can only use the word “coincidental.”
From the life and death of Jesus (Psalm 22, Isaiah 9 & 53) to the famines, pestilences and earthquakes prophesied by Jesus (Matthew 24: 7), the cases are beyond coincidental.
The re-establishment of the Nation of Israel (Ezekiel 36: 24) in 1948 has happened within the lives of many alive today. Daniel 12: 4 tells us in the last days man would travel “to and fro” and knowledge would increase. It’s happening!
The Bible also tells us of many science facts men could not possibly have known when the Bible was written. Genesis 1: 1-3 explains photosynthesis.
The production of chlorophyll produces a by-product called oxygen which animals breathe. Then we and those animals exhale carbon dioxide which the green plants use to produce more oxygen. This reciprocating process can only be reasonably explained as a supernatural created occurrence.
God invented recycling billions of years before man arrived on earth. Ecclesiastes 1: 7 explains the hydrologic cycle. Water on earth is constantly being used in a cycle that allows it to be used over and over again.
The rain falls, the earth, plants and animals consume it; the water evaporates into the atmosphere (or runs off into the seas to evaporate), the water vapor is carried by the constantly moving atmosphere (Ecclesiastes 1: 6) over land and seas where it falls again as rain.
Genesis 2: 1 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.” This statement from God’s Holy Word is in complete agreement with the first law of thermodynamics.
That law is called the law of conservation of energy which states that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed. Can we even begin to understand that every atom in our bodies has existed for billions of years? Genesis 2: 1 verifies that simple (did I say simple?) fact.
The examples are in the hundreds. God knew these things many years before man did. Jeremiah 33: 22 tells us the stars are “without number,” meaning there are too many to be counted.
The verse was written over 2000 years before Galileo used the first telescope in 1609. We now know there are trillions and trillions of stars in the universe, too many to count.
If anyone reads this that doubts the reliability and authenticity of the Bible, read it, study it, you’ll see.
If God’s holy book tells us all this compelling information, is it reasonable to believe we humans are created in His (spiritual) image and our spirit will live eternally.
He also tells us by believing in “the only begotten Son” as Savior and Lord we can have eternal salvation.
We must always teach that eternal salvation is attained by a faith based belief (Ephesians 2: 8) in Christ Jesus crucified (Matthew 27: 35) for the remission of sin (1 John 1: 9), resurrected (Matthew 28: 6) and ascended alive in to Heaven (Acts 1: 9).
