Harmony Weekend in Harrisville
Harmony Weekend in Harrisville is known for its Arts and Crafts Show, but origins of the name are from the Singing Quartets and Sweet Adeline singers. Harmony.
Most people who come here are from middle class working families. They built summer cabins, brought their children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren to enjoy the quiet of the forests and our Great Lake Huron. Lake Huron counties provide a rest from chaotic city life with a mix of shops and environmental adventures that everyone can enjoy.
The Huron National Forest is 46% of Alcona County, and we have 36 miles of shoreline. The drive up north is like an exercise in calming the senses without the high cost of a psychiatrist! Of course there are those crazy drivers who may need to get to the Mackinac Bridge before they settle into the very Harmony they are seeking. Harmony is difficult to find when people are demanding us to lower our ethics and forgo a democratic way of life. The very life our Forefathers (and mothers) came here to create; life away from dictatorships and strife. Harmony is what they were seeking on this great land called America.
My grandparents, and mom, and dad always stressed to be conservative in what we take or do. Whether that be the food on our plates, words we speak, jobs we choose or money we spend. We must be aware of the world around us, our neighbors, our communities and our environment. This land on the shores of one of Michigan’s five Great Lakes is my piece of the world where I find Harmony.
This Labor Day is our famous Harmony Arts and Crafts Festival, come and join us on the shores of Lake Huron. Come and find some Harmony.
