Shirley Ellen Hering, 87, of Hubbard Lake, Michigan, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, at her daughter's home in Lincoln.
Shirley Ellen Tucker was born in Lachine on August 19, 1939, to the late William and Isabella (Edmonds) Tucker. On March 21, 1980, she married John Hering, who preceded her in death on May 5, 2023. Shirley was a strong woman of faith and a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church, where she served as an elder for many years. Her family and her faith meant everything to her.
Surviving are her seven children, Sue Ann (Ed) Schmitz, Judy Hompstead, Robert (Stacey) Mason, Randy (Amy) Mason, Fred (Karen) Hering, Nick (Vanessa) Hering, and Melissa (Dan) McCallum; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Maurice (Donna) Tucker and Cecil (Judy) Tucker.
Shirley was preceded in death by three children, Anthony Hering, Sandra Hering, and Tammy North; a grandson, Nicholas Hering; and nine siblings, Lloyd Tucker, Mac Tucker, Tom Tucker, Bernard Tucker, William Tucker, Elizabeth Tucker, Joan Myers, Gladys Bennett, and Nora Zottneck.
Memorial visitation will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026, at First Assembly of God Alpena from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kerry Clark officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
In leu of flowers, Memorials in Shirley's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
