Marilyn Anne MacGillis, 90, of Beaver Lake passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, at Medilodge - Greenview.
Marilyn Anne Barton was born in Alpena on September 10, 1936, to the late Merritt and Naomi (Piper) Barton. She spent the first 17 years of her life on the family farm, helping with farm work and caring for her younger siblings. She attended Alfalfa School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Alpena High School in 1954. She then attended Northwestern School for Practical Nursing while working at Traverse City State Hospital. In January 1955, she trained at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba before going on to work at Pontiac General Hospital.
On June 23, 1956, she married David MacGillis. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2019. Marilyn later returned to college to become a registered nurse. She worked in labor and delivery at Crittenton Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 1991.
David and Marilyn returned to the Lachine area in 2000. Together, they enjoyed traveling and casino trips. Marilyn also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and paper tole.
Surviving are 3 children, Sheryl MacGillis, David (Carrie) MacGillis, Steve MacGillis; granddaughter, Kaylie MacGillis; siblings, Doris Mousseau, Calvin (Margaret) Barton, Phyllis (Dave) James, Daryl Barton; several nieces and nephews, dear friends and neighbors.
Mrs. MacGillis was preceded in death by her brother, Merritt Barton, and niece Susan Yachick.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. with Rev. Robert Richards officiating.
