Maxine E. Miller, 100, of Alpena passed away September 15, 2026 at the Frankfort Senior Care Home in Frankfort, Michigan.
Maxine was born on August 30, 1926 to Max and Ida Burke. She was one of seven children; her sister Wilma Kriniak and twin brothers Richard and Paul and triplet brothers Harry, Charles, and Arthur all preceded her in death.
Maxine worked for the Blackburn Insurance Agency through a co-op program while in high school. Upon graduation from Alpena High School in 1944 she became a full-time employee. Maxine worked for the family-owned insurance agency through family ownership and name changes until retirement in September of 1989. She married Alvin "Gus" Zadow in 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena. They had 3 daughters; Mary Jo (Heather Gale), Paula Jean who died shortly after birth, and Jane Ann (Robert Mischloney). Maxine has 2 grandchildren; Marcus (Tracy) Mischloney, and Maggie (Ashton) Boris, 2 great granddaughters; Adeline and Lorelei Mischloney. Following Alvin's passing, she reunited with Herman Miller a high school boyfriend, in 1991 and they were married in 1992. Herman passed in 2005.
Maxine enjoyed babysitting grandkids and great grandkids, working in her yard, caring for her home, participating in several ladies' groups at her church, continuing to tithe, viewing online services for the past 4 years, baking, cooking, entertaining, and decorating at Christmas time.
A time of visiting will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at St. Paul Church in Alpena from 10am until the service at 11am with Rev. Mary Hughes officiating. Maxine will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church -Alpena, or MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Arrangements are in the care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
