Maureen Ann Sweet, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center - Alpena, surrounded by her loving family.
Maureen Ann Ste Marie was born on June 22, 1950, in Bergenfield, New Jersey to the late Maurice and Freda (Vigneau) Ste Marie. On May 20, 1972, she married Philip Sweet. Before they moved to Alpena, she taught French at three schools and later was a social worker retiring from Community Mental Health in 2014. She was an active member of All Saints Parish, the Alpena Democratic Party, and was an avid MSU, Detroit Lions and Tigers fan.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Philip; three daughters, Jennifer (Raymond) Sweet-Cushman, Aimee (Robert) Sweet-Walter, Emilie (Andrew) Haley; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Autumn, Kaden, Brody, Ethan, Jamieson, Sophia, Corinne, Theo; two great grandchildren, Leo, Jonah; stepsister, Lorraine Schafer and sister-in-law, Doris Ste Marie.
Maureen was preceded in death by her stepfather, Leo Schaefer; two brothers, Douglas Ste Marie and David Ste Marie.
Memorial visitation will take place at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at noon with Rev. Emmanuel Finbarr officiating. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
