Lowell D. Weide, 67, of Lachine, died on Aug. 31, 2026. He was born on Aug. 7, 1959, to Roy and Laurine (Kowalski) Weide and grew up in the Alpena area, where he developed the strong values and steady character that would guide him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Alpena High School and later continued his education at Michigan State University, where he earned a degree with a major in agriculture and a minor in applied science. His education reflected his appreciation for learning, and it helped shape the thoughtful, capable man he became.
On Nov. 6, 1982, Lowell married Julie Smith, and together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and shared memories. Their marriage was a lasting partnership filled with devotion and love. Julie remained his steadfast companion and comfort to him throughout his life.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Jessica (Cory) Pelto and Ann (Joe) Case; and five cherished grandchildren, Riley, Jonathan, Caitlyn, Blaike, and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his mother, Laurine Weide, sisters, Diane (Kurt) Shields and Sandra Goffstein. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy, and his brother, Greg. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in the people he loved and the relationships he nurtured.
Those who knew Lowell will remember he enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He loved camping, hunting, watching Detroit Tigers baseball, and spending time at the casino. These interests gave him enjoyment and relaxation, and they created many memories with those who shared in them. Whether he was outdoors, cheering for his team, or enjoying time away, Lowell appreciated the moments that made life meaningful.
Though he is no longer with us, the legacy of Lowell's life will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. The lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the example he set will remain a lasting part of the lives he touched. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Per Lowell's wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at King Settlement Cemetery on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Robert Case officiating. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements.
