Guy Saterstad, a lifelong Alpena resident, died peacefully on Sept. 27, 2026, after a brave and difficult fight against cancer. He was comforted by loved ones in his final days.
Guy was born and raised in Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1977. Passionate about learning and building his skills, he later earned an associate in applied science degree from Alpena Community College. Guy was a natural entrepreneur and a familiar face to many as the former owner of the Alpena Go-Kart and mini-golf course on U.S. 23 North.
Music was the heartbeat of Guy’s life. A talented musician, he played in numerous local bands for years, bringing joy to audiences across Northern Michigan and occasionally joining memorable sessions with iconic acts, including Donny Hartman and The Frost.
Unfortunately, Guy was involved in a horrific snowmobile accident over 20 years ago, which left him permanently disabled. Despite these physical challenges, Guy maintained his resilient spirit and stayed closely connected to the Alpena area, the music, and the people he loved. He was kind-hearted and loved his animals, leaving behind his adored dog, Cooper, his cat, Ozzy, and his many turtles.
Guy's quality of life was profoundly enriched by a dedicated support network. He shared a very special relationship with his caretaker, Jessica Krueger of Hubbard Lake, who doted on him, took him on wonderful trips--including memorable casino visits--and made his final year especially meaningful. His friend and fellow musician, Randy Bouchard, also offered great support to make his life easier in many ways, even when Guy was difficult to deal with.
Guy was a loving father, brother, and son. He is survived by two daughters, Amber Wheatley and Tiffani Bluemer, and grandchildren, all of whom live in Alpena. His stepchildren, Maria Truss and John Truss, both of Alma, Michigan, brought him extra comfort and joy in his final years. His brothers, who were strong advocates and sources of support, will deeply miss him: Ed Saterstad (Mary) of Hershey, Pennsylvania; Martin Saterstad (Alma) of San Antonio, Texas; and Michael Saterstad (Chris) of Pinckney, Michigan. He is also survived by a sister, Gail.
Guy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Martin and Geraldine Saterstad, of Alpena.
The team at Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena is handling cremation arrangements. In accordance with his wishes, the family plans to hold a private celebration of life and storytelling memorial with his friends at a later date to honor his memory.
The Saterstad family extends their deepest gratitude to Jessica, Randy, and others in the Alpena community for the years of friendship, care, and love Guy received throughout his journey.
