Eldon Cripps

August 18, 1937 - August 8, 2026

Eldon G. Cripps, 88, of Alpena passed away on August 8, 2026, after struggling with Alzheimer's disease.

Eldon was born August 18, 1937, to the late Clayton and Lillian (Walker) Cripps. Eldon spent his childhood in the Herron area on the family farm, Cripps Fruit Farm. He later built and remodeled countless homes in Alpena and other parts of Michigan. His residential building career continued in Colorado Springs, Colorado and San Diego, California. Eldon retired after 53 years, moved to The Villages in Florida, finally returning to Alpena in 2015. In his free time, Eldon enjoyed driving sports cars, boating, snowmobiling, traveling, dancing, playing cards, visiting with friends, and spending time with family.

Surviving are his 3 ex-wives: Betty Bedford, Patricia Socia, and Sandra Cripps; 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Vicki Cripps and Kenda (Randy) Yochum; 2 brothers and their wives: Harvey (Toshie) Cripps and Francis (Chere) Cripps; plus, many nieces and nephews.

Eldon was preceded in death by his lady-friend Jean Dupart; 4 sisters: Meladean King, Millie McHarg, Evonne Barnard, and Jeanne Kilbourne; and 4 brothers-in-law: Raymond King, Dale McHarg, Richard Barnard, and Barry Kilbourne.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 119 W Dunbar Street, in Alpena. Burial of ashes at King Settlement Cemetery will be later. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
