Alan "AJ" John Mills, 77, of Alpena died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center - Alpena.
Alan John Mills was born in Alpena on March 11, 1949, to the late Otis and Vina (Prevo) Mills. AJ served in the United States Army during Vietnam and worked for the Alpena County Road Commission for over 40 years, retiring in 2012. On June 26, 1971, he married Kathie Wieczorkowski. He was a member of the VFW Alpena Post 2496, Men's Bowling League, Men's Softball and enjoyed watching both the Detroit Lions and Tigers.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Kathie; three children, Robert (Tina Livermore) Mills, John (Stephanie) Mills, Angela (Randy) Helinski; five grandchildren, Courtney (Isaac) Turner, Katelyn Mills, Madelyn Mills, Macy Mills, Cole Mills; great granddaughter, Andie Jane "AJ" Turner; two brothers, Arnold (Sandra) Mills, Gene Mills; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mills was preceded in death by eight siblings, Phyllis Monette, Jane Matthes, Cicilia Rouleau, Dorothy Scott, Otis Mills, Jr., Louis Allain, Arlyn Mills, and Irving Allain.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon with Deacon Michael Roy officiating, followed by military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
