Kay Anne Lumsden, 55, of Alpena, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at home surrounded by family that she cherished.
Kay was born in Alpena on Aug. 22, 1970, to Thomas and Grace (Bartz) Lumsden at Alpena General Hospital. Growing up on a dairy farm shaped the foundation of Kay's values, teaching her the importance of hard work, family, and togetherness. It was also where she peacefully took her final breath.
A devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend, she was a cherished source of unwavering support, joy, and love to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her deep love of agriculture led her to a fulfilling lifelong career with the USDA Farm Service Agency for 29 years, where she proudly served as County Executive Director. She continued in this role until her retirement, following her diagnosis of gastric cancer. She found great joy in working with producers, always going above and beyond to advocate for them. Her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on both the producers she served and FSA employees across the country.
A lifetime member of Long Rapids First Congregational Church, Kay's faith and love for Christ were at the heart of her life. Her walk with Him was deeply important to her, and she continually sought to grow closer to Him, living out her faith with love, grace, and devotion. Even through her illness, her focus was on Jesus and the salvation of others.
Kay loved playing tennis and pickleball, where the friendships she made with her fellow players became especially meaningful to her. Family and friends meant so much to Kay. Whether it was a simple dinner, a girls' trip, time with family, or cheering on her nieces at softball, dance recitals, or skating shows, she was always happy to be there.
Kay is survived by her dad and mom, Tom and Grace Lumsden; her two sisters, Amy (Clark) Lewis, Dawn (Ted) Skerski; four nieces, Danielle (Ken) Wirgau, Laura Lewis, Elizabeth (Spencer) Wiedbrauk, and Lilly Lewis. She is also survived by four great nieces and nephews, AJ, Thea, Marianna, Xander; and special friend Bobby Allen.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue at Long Rapids First Congregational Church on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sam Mock officiating.
Interment: Long Rapids Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be given to Long Rapids First Congregational Church, Friends Together, and Hospice of Michigan.
