Gerald Stewart Mills, 95, of Alpena passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Davison Care Home.
Gerald was born on July 4, 1931, to the late Stewart and Viola (Rembowski) Mills, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. On June 16, 1953, he married June LeTourneau. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2025.
Jerry retired from National Gypsum and later Eagle Engineering, in retirement they enjoyed wintering in Tucson. He was an accomplished artist and was a member of All Saints Parish. Jerry was an active member of the community serving on many committees including; chairman of Huron Portland Credit Union Supervisory Committee, president of Local 135 at National Gypsum, president of Lions Speedskating Club, vice-president of Michigan Speedskating Association, elected to the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
He is survived by five children, James (Peggy) Mills, Thomas (Mary) Mills, Peggy (Brad) Williams, Robert (LuAnn) Mills, Jeanne (Chris) Taratuta; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Joyce (Richard) Shiemke, Janet Samp, Joni Mills; sister-in-law, Sally LeTourneau; several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by great-grandson Jayden; 2 brothers-in-law, Lee Kaiser, and Ray Samp.
Memorial visitation will take place at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Aloysius Okpala officiating, followed by military honors will be accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
