Victoria “Vickie” Reynolds, 93, of Alpena, died peacefully in her home on July 25, 2026. Vickie and her twin sister, Gloria, were born in the U.P. in Little Traverse on Feb. 1, 1933, to the late Leonard and Hilma (Lasanen) Hamina. Vickie spent several formative years in Copper Harbor which remained her favorite place. Shortly after graduating from Chassell High School, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Reynolds. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1952 and raised four children, William, John, Thomas and Cynthia.
Vickie was a hardworking and active stay-at-home mother. During those years, she became a wonderful seamstress and shared her love of sewing by teaching (Bishop Sewing) classes to young adults. She also thoroughly enjoyed her volunteer work at Child and Family Services in Alpena. But most of all, her friends remember Vickie as having a joy for life and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved telling “Yooper” jokes and could always find the humor in things. She had an amazing inner strength which she called her “Finnish Sisu”.
When Bill retired, he and Vickie spent their winters in Colorado enjoying their life-long passion for skiing. They skied together until they were 82 years old. They also enjoyed many sailing trips to the North Channel on their sailboat (Victoria Queen) that Bill spent 20 years building by hand. Vickie and Bill also loved traveling the world together, including trips to Antarctica, Australia/New Zealand, Galapagos Islands, Finland, Norway, Ireland, England and Switzerland.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 72 years, Bill, and five of her sisters and their spouses, Agnus (Bob) Pyykkonen, Elaine (Dave) Weisbach, Virginia (Walter) Soumis, Gloria (Bob) Karppinen, and Arlene (Bill) Ensley.
Vickie is survived by her four children, William (Linda) of Hancock, MI, John (Crystal) of Marquette, MI, Thomas of San Diego, CA, and Cynthia (Kim) of Wheat Ridge, CO; her seven grandchildren, Bill (Cameo), Julie (Chris), Sarah (Antony), Anna (Mitch), Leah (Joe), Emily (Nathan) and Greg; six great-grandchildren, Van, William Atlas, Medora, Evander; and Mia and her sister, Helen Swisher.
Vickie’s wishes were to have her friends and loved ones honor her with their memories of wonderful times together. At her request, there will be no service. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
