Daniel Szymanski

Daniel John Szymanski, 93, of Alpena, MI, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Medilodge – Greenview
Daniel John Szymanski was born on April 22, 1933, in Alpena to the late Felix and Martha (Kieliszewski) Szymanski. He attended grade school at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School, which was only a block from his home, and then Alpena High School graduating in 1951. After high school he worked on the Great Lakes boats, then in June of 1952, during the Korean Conflict, he joined the United States Navy and served as an AD2 1st Mechanic and Plane Captain on a Neptune PV2 – HD4. He was known as “SKI” to other crew members with Patrol Squadron VP-8 receiving an honorable discharge in June 1956. He married Jeanne Lucille Frantz on June 7, 1958, at St. Mary Catholic Church. He retired from Abitibi-Price in 1992 after 34 years of service. Dan was an avid hunter-especially rabbits, deer, and upland birds; enjoyed pontooning on Thunder Bay River with family and friends; playing cribbage and poker; visiting hunting camps, telling a good joke, etc. He was a past member of the Maple Ridge Township Volunteer Fire Department and Zoning Board; and a charter member of the PK Fletcher Gun Club; as well as an usher and lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church/All Saints Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne of 68 years and three children: B. Paul (Robin) Szymanski, D. Jan Szyren, of Alpena, Kenneth (Brenda) Szymanski of Interlaken, NY; five grandchildren: Kelsey Szymanski, Hailey (Ben) Hirsch, and Lesley Szymanski of MI and Jacob Szymanski and Joshua (Bailey) Szymanski of NY; his sister, Doris Stafford of Alpena as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Chet, Jim, and Dick.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with military honors by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Reverend Emmanuel Finbarr officiating.
Interment: Pilgrims Rest Cemetery
