Avis LeTourneau

Avis was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Grand Rapids to Esther (Gardner) & Leslie Miller. She graduated from Frasier High School in Detroit. The Miller’s moved to Alpena as her father was to work for Besser Cement Co. At 21 yrs old she fell in love & married Donald G. LeTourneau (Deceased) & had four children Donald S. LeTourneau, Gordon T. LeTourneau, Cherie L. (LeTourneau) Wisniewski, Gregory J. LeTourneau. Avis graduated nursing college in 1986 with RN degree. A life rooted in compassion for others, she worked at Alpena General Hospital for 20 years.

Helping people was her passion. Once on a vacation in Florida Avis brought back to life a toddler that had drowned. She loved traveling USA, Italy, Rome, Vatican & Naples. Avid lover of sports, Hockey, Racquet ball, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Golf. At Alpena golf course she had a hole in one on the 9th hole. Avis’ greatest love was family gatherings & holidays to show & share her love for everyone. Every day off, weekend, or vacation was spent with kids & grand kids, going camping, nature hikes, berry picking, mushroom hunting, treasure hunting, ice & roller skating, swimming at the lakes & cooking meals for everyone. Being a neighborhood mom, Avis was quick to help anyone in need of compassion, food, & a place to sleep. She would give money, clothing, and even the keys to her car. Avis was a very caring & giving soul. Always sharing the love of God’s Gospel & Jesus, touching all our lives. Forever in our hearts. A life beautifully lived and deeply loved.

Avis is survived by her children, Donald S. LeTourneau, Gordon T. LeTourneau, Cherie L. (LeTourneau) Wisniewski, Gregory J. LeTourneau, her grandchildren, Christina LeTourneau, Thomas LeTourneau, Aubrey Wisniewski, Johnathon LeTourneau, Amy LeTourneau, Eric Giles, Christopher LeTourneau, Amanda Schulwitz, her great grandchild, Oaklynn Wixon, her sister, Martha (Miller) Vanwagner, and dozens of nieces, nephews, friends, sons and daughters in-law, stepchildren, and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Samuel Southwell, and her siblings, Esther (Miller) Johnson, Betty (Miller) Shiemke, Patricia (Miller) Thibault, Ralph Miller, David Miller, and Brenda Miller.

Avis has been taken for cremation with services to be announced at a later date. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
