Mitchell Craig Cousineau, 68, of Alpena died on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.

Mitch was born in Alpena on June 9, 1957, to Arnold and Beverly (Chapman) Cousineau. He was a happy child and the proud oldest brother in a family of three boys. Mitch graduated from Alpena High School in 1975. He spent most of his adult life in Florida, where he worked for many years with the V.F.W., supporting the homeless population. Mitch moved back to Alpena in 2013, where he provided his mother with excellent care. While in Alpena, he was active with the V.F.W. Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League. Mitch enjoyed socializing, blues music, playing pool, and cooking, where he truly had a talent. Mitch always had a story to share from his adventures, and his positive attitude and upbeat personality made everyone he met a friend.

Mitch is survived by his mother, Beverly Olsen of Alpena; nieces and nephews, Allison Cousineau Modrzynski of Alpena, Bradley Cousineau of Richmond, Virginia, Jason Cousineau of Flint, and Jayne (Dylan) MacNeill of Alpena; grandnephews, Owen and Colin Mischloney, Noah Modrzynski, and Walter Weinkauf; grandnieces, Isla Weinkauf and Lainey MacNeill; and sister-in-law, Kimberly O’Neil of Vassar.

Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Cousineau, in 1983; his brother, Paul M. Cousineau, in 1992; his brother, Mark K. Cousineau, in 2013; and his stepfather, Gerald “Sam” Olsen, in 2015.

Memorial visitation will take place Monday, May 11, 2026, at First Congregational Church – Alpena from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon, with Rev. Laura Hoffman officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
