Michael Murray

Michael V. Murray, 78, of Alpena died May 10, 2026.

Michael was born Oct. 4, 1947 in Alpena to the late Virgil and Clara (Wolosyzk) Murray. He graduated from Catholic Central in 1964, then attended Alpena Community College where he received his associate’s degree in business management, commerce and liberal arts. He also received certification in Photo Offset Printing.

Michael served in the Army where he did one tour of duty in Vietnam during the Tet Offense in 1968. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign with Ribbon, and many other awards.

Michael worked for the U.S. Post Office, Defense Logistics Service in Battle Creek, then for the Alpena Public Schools and Alpena Community College. He had a deep passion for helping others and was a huge volunteer supporter for community organizations such as Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 583, Feed a Family, Toys for Kids, St. Vincent DePaul, Boys and Girls Club of Alpena, and The Friendship Room. He enjoyed his time spent helping others in their time of need, especially working with his mentor Sylvia Owens.

Michael is survived by his sister, Jan Dommer, and his brother, Ken Murray. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Ann Murray, Arlene McWilliams, and two brothers, Robert and Carl Murray.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 20, 2026 at Holy Cross Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post #2496 and the U.S. Army.
