Michael (Mike) J. Kelley, 78, died peacefully at his home on May 6, 2026, after a battle with Alzheimer’s/dementia.
Mike was born in Alpena on March 21, 1948, to the late John and Alma (Johnson) Kelley. He attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated in 1966 from Alpena High School. On Aug. 17, 1968, he married Diane Lucas. They built their home in Herron, where they raised their two children. Mike was employed as a millwright at Fletcher Paper Company until they closed, then went to Georgia Pacific Company until they also closed. After that Mike was employed at Abitibi and S&A. Mike then retired from those companies and went to work for Alpena Public Schools as a bus driver, retiring in 2022. Mike enjoyed NASCAR, duck and goose hunting, football, going to swap meets, collecting scrap, and was a collector.
Mike is survived by his wife, Diane; two children, Shannon (Dennis) Thiem, Tim (Tami) Kelley; four grandchildren, Sienna and Trysta Thiem, Troy and Keegan Szatkowski; sister, Sally (Jack) Sewell.
Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2026, from noon until the time of the memorial service at 4 p.m., with Deacon Michael Roy officiating.
