Kim Yachasz
Kim M. Yachasz, 71, of Lachine died peacefully on May 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He will be remembered as a kind and generous man who touched the lives of many.
Kim was born in Alpena on Aug. 12, 1954, to the late Kenneth and Wilma (LaRouche) Yachasz. On May 22, 1976, he married Peggy Worniak at St. John Catholic Church. Their marriage of 50 years stood as a lasting example of love and commitment.
Kim spent 26 years working for MDOT before retiring, but his true joy was found in the simple things–working in his yard, baking for others, sharing coffee and conversation at the Depot, and spending time with those he loved. He was longtime president of the Ramblin Rods Car Club and a passionate classic car enthusiast. His 1940 street rod, “Peggy Sue,” was a familiar presence at local car shows. He was also a charter member of the Alpena Moose Lodge and an avid motorcyclist.
Kim is also survived by his devoted wife, Peggy; beloved daughters: Amy (Corey) Haskell, Misty (Eric) Lucyk, Kylie (Justin) Harrington; his nine cherished grandchildren: Madaline Skowronek; Hazel, Piper, and Bryer Haskell; Lauren Lucyk; Ryker, Azlynn, Maizee and Maven Harrington.
He is further survived by his siblings Mark (Brenda) Yachasz, David (Jaqueline) Yachasz, Dorothy (Don) Baker, and sister-in-law Nina Yachasz, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Carter James Lucyk and his brother, Rock Yachasz.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Green Township Hall from noon to 5 p.m. with moments of sharing at 1 p.m. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bannan Funeral Home.
Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery
Memorials can be made in his honor to Friends Together of Alpena.
