David LeGage

January 6, 1961 - May 27, 2026

It is with deep sorrow, and deep gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of David L. LeGage, 65 of Portland, Maine. David passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2026, holding hands of his wife and daughter – surrounded by the love that defined his life.

David was born on January 6, 1961, to his beloved parents, Mary and David LeGage, in Portland, Maine. The oldest of four siblings, David proudly took on the role of big brother to Michael, Kathleen, and Daniel LeGage – a role he embraced with equal parts guidance, sarcasm, and the occasional unsolicited life lesson.

A proud Mainer through and through, David’s passions were simple: family, New England sports, rock & roll, and living life entirely on his own terms. A lifelong rebel at heart, David never had much interest in following crowds, and those who knew him best wouldn’t have wanted him any other way. David was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan who could almost always be found in his well-worn La-Z-Boy, remote in one hand, dressed head-to-toe in Red Sox gear.

Music was also a lifelong love. David never believed the volume knob needed moderation at home, or on a summer drive with all the windows down; especially when it came to The Rolling Stones or Aerosmith. It is likely that his neighbors knew the lyrics to every Stones song whether they wanted to or not.

But above all else, David’s greatest joy was his family. He loved deeply, laughed loudly and showed up for the people he cared about without hesitation. He was the kind of man who was always present for the big moments and always showed up for his family, despite the distance. He also had a way of making his grandchildren laugh with a single look. To them, he was simply “Grampie” – a title he carried with endless pride and unconditional love.

David is survived by his wife, Debra LeGage of Alpena, Michigan; his children, Cynthia (Michael) Lamb and Timothy (Maira) LeGage; and his cherished grandchildren, Boston and Winston Lamb, and Leila and Audrey LeGage. He also leaves behind his siblings, extended family, countless lifelong friends, his cherished dog Doc, and everyone lucky enough to have shared a ballgame, a laugh, or a song with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and David LeGage.

David will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever present in the crack of a bat at Fenway, the opening riff of a Rolling Stones song, and every summer day when the music is just a little too loud. His family finds comfort knowing that somewhere, somehow, he’s settled back into his favorite chair, cheering on the Red Sox with his mother and father by his side.

In lieu of a service, his family asks that you grill out with family and listen to rock and roll loudly. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
