Daniel Barden

Daniel L. Barden, age 78, of Alpena, died on May 6, 2026, after a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and steadfast kindness to those who knew him.

He was born on March 17, 1948, in Houghton, to the late Lyle and Marjorie (Fahselt) Barden. Dan grew up with strong family values that remained with him throughout his life, and he carried those values into every role he held as a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Dan proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated courage and commitment in the face of great hardship. For his service, he received two Purple Hearts, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice.

On July 3, 1971, he married Patricia Jaskolski, and together they shared a long and loving marriage built on loyalty, companionship, and mutual devotion. Patricia was a constant presence in his life, and their years together were filled with family, shared memories, and the everyday moments that made their bond so meaningful.

Dan worked as an inventory analyst at Besser Company for many years, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and steady presence. He found great joy in the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing at all times. These interests were more than hobbies to him, as they were part of the way he found peace and connection. He also took great pride in supporting his son and grandchildren during their sports activities, and he treasured every opportunity to cheer them on. Time spent with family was among his greatest joys, and he especially loved the companionship of his granddogs, Bowzer and Cooper, and his cats, Baby and Coon who brought him happiness and comfort.

Dan is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Nathan (Kristin) Barden, and Lynsey Barden (David Prieur); his sister, Elaine (Jim) Meddaugh; and his grandchildren, Grady, Gavin, and Lillie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a special friend Charlie Lake whom the family is thankful to for all of his support. Daniel was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Abigail.

Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a selfless man whose life was defined by quiet generosity, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family of “Camo Dan” extends a warm thank you to the Alpena VA Clinic and Hospice of MI for all their care and support and invites all attendees to wear camo attire.

Dan is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a brief prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. with Rev. Laura Hoffman officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Huron Humane Society or the Alpena Agent Orange Chapter 1.
