Thomas Keen

Thomas Richard Keen, 83, of Alpena, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

Tom was born to the late Walter and Kathryn (Niles) Keen on Feb. 20, 1943, and graduated from Alpena Catholic Central. Tom entered the U.S. army in 1965 and served until 1971. He was honorably discharged and in later years became 100% disabled. After the military he bought his own semi and pursued long haul truck driving across the United States until 1991 when his health started to decline. Tom loved going to camp, deer hunting, traveling, visiting casinos, and spending time with his family and friends. Tom was well known in the community for his dedicated service in helping other veterans. He was a life member and served as the commander of the V.F.W. Post 3890 – Alpena, and V.F.W. post 7804 – Posen, he was a member of the Eagles Post 3544 – Cummins, served as commander at the American Legion post 65 – Alpena, a member of Vietnam Veterans post 383 – Alpena, Commander of Agent Orange Riders chapter 3 – Alpena, Disabled American Veterans chapter 61 – Alpena. He also helped transport veterans to VA hospitals.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Jean (Cloft) Keen; Stepson, Jody Timmreck; three children, Thomas (Kristi) Keen II, Pam Taylor, and Tamme Keen; two grandchildren, Travis and Brianna Timmreck; several nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Phyillis Schulke.

Tom was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Schulke and Sharon Rogers.

A celebration of Tom’s life will take place at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
