Daniel John Tibbals, 77, of Alpena died Friday, April 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Daniel was born in Alpena on Sept. 5, 1948, to the late Clair and Rita (Sullivan) Tibbals. Dan served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He married Mary Adamski on Oct. 16, 1971. She preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 1994. Dan worked as a police officer for the City of Detroit in many roles throughout his 20 year career. On April 27, 1996, he married Deborah Anne Yahne. After retiring from the department, he began a second career teaching. He taught for Alpena Public Schools, Rogers City Area Schools, and retired from Beaufort County School District in South Carolina in 2014. While teaching, he enjoyed coaching football, basketball and softball. He has been a member of All Saints Parish, serving as an usher, the Marine Corps League, Alpena Lions Club, was a hospice volunteer, and enjoyed woodworking with his brother-in-law, Steve.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Yahne, three children, David (Julia) Tibbals, Brian (Becky) Tibbals, Danielle (Mark) Scoggins; three grandchildren, Shelby and Lily Scoggins, Braden Tibbals; three siblings, Madelyn (Steve) Precour, Thomas (Linda) Tibbals, Richard (Jami) Tibbals; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tibbals was preceded in death by his nephew, Jeffrey Precour and brother-in-law, Steve Adamski.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Aloysius Okpala officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
